Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics

Program Description

Due to globalization, individuals in the world now are opting for food and fiber from countries having comparative advantage of production. To make use of this opportunity the country has to be competent in the global market by producing competent human resource in the areas of optimizing scarce resource use, planning profitable projects which accelerate the pace of economic growth. Hence, producing capable, competent graduates in the field of Agricultural Economics is instrumental. The intended graduate of Agricultural Economics is, in general, expected to develop economic information on farm production methods and technologies; structure and efficiency of the agriculture-food-fiber system; linkages of production with processing, distribution and final consumer demand; linkages between agriculture and the environment; and agricultural trade and policy to help farmers, agribusiness and consumers, decision-maker; and prepare dynamic careers in business, natural resources, and the environment & economics interaction. The curriculum has been designed in a way that combines economics and agricultural fundamentals with insights into the dynamic social, technological and environmental forces that shape production and marketing decisions.

Admission Requirements

Applicants for admission to the Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Economics program must satisfy any of the following criteria:
 A successful completion of grade 12 with minimum University Entrance Examinations result set for admission, by the Ministry of Education, for the entry year.
 Completion of Diploma program (12+2 and 10+3), Level 4 TVET Program with Occupational Competency Assessment (COC) Certification, and pass the College’s entrance examination.
 A degree program student from other accredited Higher Education Institutions with legal withdrawal beyond disciplinary breach, and/or transferred increase of institutional preference or field choice.
 A first-degree graduate in any field of study from accredited Higher Education Institutions.
 In case of high competition for admission, grade point average at graduation, additional training taken after graduation, service year, gender and supporting letter from respective employers, and result from entrance examination of the college will be considered as separation criteria.
 For international students anyone who wishes to join the BA program in Accounting and Finance is required to meet the entry requirements of higher institutions stated by Ministry of Education and Education and Training Authority.

M.A College has been given the license and renewal of license to provide higher education in Agricultural Economics program at undergraduate level in Distance mode of delivery at Assosa and Gilgel Beles campuses.
