EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

M.A. College delivers Degree in BSc in Computer science   in which it has full Accreditation that it obtained from FDRE Education and Training Authority at all its campuses in both regular and extension.

The degree to be issued to the students upon completion of the graduation requirements set by the college has the following nomenclature: In English: English:          Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science in Amharic: “የሳይThስ ባችለር ዲግሪ በኮምፒዩተር ሳይThስ”

The standard study period to complete the program is FOUR YEARS at Regular program and four and half years for extension/weekend students and requires the successful completion of 148 credit hours/247 ECTS.

GRADUATE PROFILE

The graduate will have the following profile at the end of the program.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of essential facts, concepts, principles and theories relating to computer science.
  • Use such knowledge and understanding in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices.
  • Identify and analyze criteria and specifications appropriate to specific problems, and plan strategies for their solution.
  • Analyze the extent to which a computer-based system meets the criteria defined for its current use and future development.
  • Deploy appropriate theory, practices, and tools for the specification, design, implementation, and evaluation of computer-based systems.
  • Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in, continuing professional development and the knowledge and skills to act as research assistants or lecturers in higher education institutions.
  • Specify, design, and implement computer -based systems.
  • Evaluate systems in terms of general quality attributes and possible tradeoffs presented within the given problem.
  • Apply the principles of human -computer interaction to the evaluation and construction of a wide range of materials including u ser interfaces, web pages, and multimedia systems.
  • Identify any risks or safety aspects that may be involved in the operation of computing equipment within a given context.
  • Deploy effectively the tools used for the construction and documentation of software, with particular emphasis on understanding the whole process involved in using computers to solve practical problems.
  • Use current techniques, skills, and tools necessary to maintain and administer computer based systems.
  • Apply mathematical foundations, algorithmic principles, and computer science theory in the modeling and design of computer-based systems in a way that demonstrates comprehension of the tradeoffs involved in design choices;
  • Make succinct presentations to a range of audiences about technical problems and their solutions.
  • Be able to work effectively as a member of a development team.
  • Understand and explain the quantitative dimensions of a problem.
  • Manage one’s own learning and development, including time management and organizational skills
  • Recognize and be guided by the social, professional, and ethical issues involved in the use of computer technology.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Through document analysis on different research organization websites in the field of computer science and based on other universities’ computer science programs, it has been found professionals in the field of computer science do have knowledge and skills in software de sign and implementation, devising new ways of to use computers, developing effective ways to solve computing problems, generating new knowledge through research as in bioinformatics and intelligent systems, presenting findings clearly ,and using computers for the betterment of society.

Computer science professional must have

  • A high-level understanding of computing systems as a whole. This understanding must go beyond the implementation details of the various components to encompass an appreciation for the structure of computer systems and the processes involved in their construction and analysis.
  • Thorough understanding of the balance between theory and practice and the essential link between them not only the theoretical underpinnings of the discipline but also how that theory influences practice
  • A solid foundation that allows and encourages them to maintain their skills as the field evolves
  • The ability to Demonstrate, deploy, design and implement computing systems
  • The ability to Exercise management and administration of computing systems

Admission Requirement

Generally application to the program will be in line with the admission rules and regulations the ministry of education. Specifically Applicants for admission to the Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science program must satisfy any of the following criteria:

  • A successful completion of two year preparatory program with minimum College Entrance Examinations Result set for admission by Ministry of Education, for the entry year.
  • Completion of Diploma program (12+2 and 10+3), Level 4 TVET program with one year relevant work experience after graduation,
  • Occupational Competency Assessment (COC) Certification for that level and a pass score on the College’s Entrance Examination.
  • A degree program student from other accredited Higher Education Institution with legal withdrawal beyond disciplinary breach, and/or transferred in case of institutional preference or field choice.
  • A first degree graduate in related field of study from accredited Higher Education Institution.

Duration of the Study and graduation requirement

The duration of the study for the regular B.Sc. program in Computer Science is four years regular and four and half years for extension/weekend students.

Every candidate for B.Sc. degree in Computer Science must fulfill the following requirements for graduation:

  • Minimum cumulative Grade Point Requirement for graduation is 2.00.
  • The completion of the total of 148 credit hours or 247 ECTS.
